The walk starts at the railway station in Benaojan. Cross over the railway line to the south of the station and over a small bridge to the opposite side of the river. There is an information board with map of the route in front of you. The path goes to the right following the Canada Real del Campo de Gibraltar. It follows the banks of the river and passes an old mill and cortijo that has been abandoned. From here there are spectacular views of the Sierra de Benaojan and the mountain peak, Ventana, that is 1298m high. A bit further on you will be able to see a huge limestone mass called El Cancho where there are ruins of an Arab castle. We soon arrive at what is called Las Angosturas - which the river has carved out over the years. Cross a small, wooden bridge into an area of small streams and riverbeds. The path continues slowly winding its way to Jimera. As you approach the village there is a crossing to the opposite side of the railway - to a small copse alongside the river that brings you to you to the back of the railway station. Alternatively, at the crosssing, you can continue alongside a small farm, usually with lots of pigs around, and enter the hamlet passing a fountain of fresh water, and then into the village passing in front of the railway station. Train times Benaojan to Jimera de Libar: 10.24 / 17.08 / 19.57

Back in May 2008 the British Conservative Party leader David Cameron was visiting the local area and did the walk from Benaojan to Jimera de Libar. The narrow path runs alongside the River Guadiaro and the railway line that was constructed back in the 19th century by the Algeciras-Gibraltar Railway Company. As well as laying the track the company also built numerous railway stations in typical English style.
